As Christmas is just 2 days away...we have to remember the most important things in our lives and to not forget to show gratitude for what we have. Because as easy it is for things to be given to us...whether it be a job, a home, or a family...those same things can easily be taken away.
This is my first Christmas not spending it with my family since I moved across the country. And instead of feeling sad about it...I really wanted to do something this year to help others. My uncle and I used to go to different shelters to feed the homeless during the holidays. While everyone was at home with their family enjoying their holiday hot meals...my uncle and I were out feeding the homeless on our holiday.
I wanted to do something special again this year being that I'm now living thousands of miles away from my own family. So this is what I decided to do. (watch video below).
Help Portrait is a movement of photographers who are using their time, equipment and expertise to give back to those who are less fortunate.
I was very honored to be able to work as the makeup artist with a group of fabulous and talented photographers. I enjoyed every second of it. And the end result, was amazing.
And you know you have done a good thing when your inbox is flooded with messages like this one to the right (click on image to enlarge).
I wish you all a safe and wonderful Christmas. Don't forget to tell the ones that you love those 3 special words....
"I love you."
If you're like me, the thought of working out by running can seem dreadful especially if you're not a fan of running to begin with. I like to incorporate activities in my workout. I would rather attend a dance or aerobics class to get my fitness on.
When I lived in California, I was part of a Halau, which is in Hawaiian means Hawaiian Dance School. I loved it! I danced for several years. I practiced 2-3 times a week for 2 hours and even had performances. My Kumu (Hawaiian dance teacher) was very strict in a good way and was set in making sure that every move that his students did was in sync and to perfection. It was so much fun and not to mention I lost a lot of weight in just a matter of weeks due to vigorous dance moves.
So many people have asked me where I got the name "QueenLeilani" from. Well, it was my Kumu who gave me that name. When you are part of a Halau, you must "earn" your name. He gave me the name "Leilani" which means "God's heavenly flower." But later down the road, my friends started calling me QueenLeilani instead...so that name just stuck around.

Well, now that I live in New York, I haven't found a Hawaiian dance group that I want to join yet. I have done a lot of research and just have not found the right group yet. So in the meantime, I found a FREE dance class for West African Dancing. Yes, that's right....African Dancing. It's something that I have never done before. Since I'm a former dance teacher and have been exposed to all types of dancing, I can honestly say that this is one style of dancing that I have not tackled yet. The thought of the challenge enlightens me. So a friend and I will be going this week.
Stay tuned on my results about the class! =) And wish me luck!
haha....I got a letter from Santa! woohoo!!
There are a few things I would like...not that I would get all of them at once. But I would like to eventually have them. Here are 4 things that I really would like to get within the next 12 months:
1.) Sigma Makeup Brushes (full set with brush roll)
I first learned about these brushes from YouTube guru MakebyTiffanyD earlier this year (March 2009). They are comparable to being the same quality as MAC brushes. For the fraction of the cost, you can get the entire set of 12 brushes with the brush roll for $89.00 which is amazing! (click here) To some, that may sound a lot. But if you compare it to MAC, some brushes with MAC can cost you about $50 for just one brush. So do the math. Now, you're probably wondering why if I like it so much, why I haven't gone out and bought it then? Well, there has been several contests out on YouTube that are sponsored by Sigma Makeup to win the brushes for free. So I have been adamant on trying to win the brushes over buying them. But I gave myself a year. If I don't win the brushes by March 2010, that I would cave in to buying them. But honestly, I would feel proud to win it instead. You can check out the brushes at www.sigmamakeup.com
2.) iTouch
Ok, Ok...to some of you it may seem like i'm a late bloomer when it comes to the rave of the iTouch. But actually, I've been wanting an iTouch since it first came out. I remember when I went to purchase a replacement on my 2nd iPod a few years ago, the sales clerks at the Apple store kept trying to sell me the iTouch when the 1st generation was first released. I was almost tempted to buy it. But at the time, the storage capacity of the iTouch sucked! So I decided to wait on it till a few generations later when the model improved. I like to watch music videos and movies along with listening to music and playing games...so if i'm going to get an iTouch, it would have to withstand the memory of everything I want.
3.) High Definition Canon Camera For those who know me, know that I cannot leave home without my camera! Some might say "I can't leave home without my phone!" No, my priority is my camera over my phone. haha. Whenever I leave the house forgetting my camera, I end up SO ANGRY with myself. Ugh! But since I do video editing for a living along with pleasure, the next camera I get must be able to take high definition quality video and ZOOM like no ones business! My boss who does professional photography for a living, just purchased a new Canon Camera which takes video also and it takes BEAUTIFUL quality pictures. She wants to sell me her older camera (doesn't take video) but I think I might buy her older camera anyways. (click here)
4.) Blackberry Tour
Last, but not least. A new phone for God's sakes! It's been years since I've purchased a brand new phone. Luckily, I've been gracious enough to have friends who have been kind enough to pass me on their old phones. Everytime they get new phones, I get to have their old phones. But of course, the reason why they got new phones to begin with was because they were already having problems with their old phones. So taking their old phones meant taking their old problems too. But hey....I was fine with it at the time because I was saving money. I am not one of those people who are obsessed with their phones (as I am with my camera) where I must have it on me at all times. As a matter of fact, my boyfriend gets mad at me because I always forget my phone at home. haha. I rarely ever talk on the phone. So you're probably wondering, why get a phone then? Well, I like to chat through blackberry messenger and be able to surf the internet wherever I go. I also found that it's extremely helpful when you're taking the subway and need a quick reference map. I use my current phone as a gps navigator...but lately, it's been crapping out on me and freezing. So it's about time I get a brand new phone (problem free).

I know I haven't blogged for a few weeks now....and it's because I've been away on vacation. I went back to California to visit family and friends. It was my first time to go back home ever since I moved to New York. It was so nice to see everyone that I love. There was so many people to see and so little time. So therefore, I will have to visit again soon.
I can't believe that it's been nearly a year since I moved to New York. I remember when I initially started this blog, it was my way to stay connected with my friends and family as I moved across the country...and to let them know that i'm alright.
It was so nice to visit home and to especially be at the place I love to be at most.....the beach. Granted, it was about 70 degrees around this time...which to Californians is too cold to be tanning at the beach. But after being in New York for so long, 70 degree weather was warm and a perfect day for me to tan...especially when you get used to weather as cold as 20-30 degree weather. Anything in the 70's is perfect! One of the things that I knew I would miss is watching the sunset. I always looked forward to watching the sunset in beach. It's a beautiful sight. But after living in New York, you don't get to see the sunset...but the sunrise. Beautiful.
I have been nominated for a blog award by RayQueenBee who is from Miami, Florida. Her motto is "Beauty is Within."

Okay, I can only think of 8 people. haha.
I practiced a zombie look on myself after being inspired by the New York Halloween parade of the zombie dancers from the Michael Jackson Thriller video. (Picture of the zombie dancers below)
The tutorial is below of the process. It's definitely not your everyday look that's for sure....but it was fun for a one time Halloween occassion. Happy Halloween.

Did you know that today is the 105th anniversary when the 1st New York subway opened? It opened October 27th, 1905 and back then it only costed 5 cents. Now it's $2.25!

My sister's baby, Alyna is finally learning how to walk and learning to say "I love you". She is so adorable.
My boyfriend and his dad get motion sickness, especially when we are riding a boat. Motion sickness occurs in various ways from long road trips, roller coaster rides, train rides, airplanes, boat, etc.
I used to get seasick before and it was horrible! My parents and I took a trip to Catalina and I couldn't enjoy the ride because all I wanted to do was hunch over the boat and...well you know. I was nauseated the entire trip. I tried laying down and I found out it was the WORST thing to do when you feel nauseated. So after that one trip, I did some research on how to avoid motion sickness. Here are a few things that have worked for me:
1.) Drink lots of water ahead of time, staying hydrated is key.
2.) Take medication, such as Dramamine, to prevent motion sickness at least an hour before.
3.) Suck on ice cubes.
4.) Suck on hard candy.
5.) Eat bananas.
6.) Eat crackers or bread.
7.) Avoid greasy food prior to your trip.a

Hey everyone! An updated announcement!
I received a new email from Jessica from WowSoCool that The Konad Nail Art Stamping kit has been changed from 20% to now 30% off. YAY! (round of applause!)
Well, I'm very excited to announce that you can get some awesome Konad Stamping Nail Art from the company WowSoCool for a fraction of the cost. It's very simple and easy to use. You don't have to spend hours at a time decorating your nails anymore since this process takes no more than 10 minutes or less. The instructional video is below. Now, let's talk about the DISCOUNT shall we?
1.) Go to the website: www.wowsocool.com
2.) When you order, use the coupon code: queenleilani and 30% will be taken off your purchase. Isn't that awesome?
3.) Do note, that the discount does NOT apply towards "Build Your Own Kit" since that is already discounted.
(picture from google, just to give you an idea of the end result).
The customer service and shipping is EXCELLENT! I actually emailed the company letting them know how happy I was with my products and the next day, I received a reply back by a representative named Jessica. I was very happy about that. She has been so helpful and very open in communication with me and I sincerely appreciate that. I know it takes a lot of work to be in the Customer Service world especially when you do not feel as though your job is appreciated. Trust me, I know....I've worked in customer service before for years. So when I deal with EXCELLENT customer service, I make sure that I give credit where credit is due.
The shipping was rather fast. I ordered my Konad stamping kit on a Friday and I got it on Monday. I was very surprised how fast I received my products! Oh another thing, the shipping is very inexpensive. If you are in the US, it's FREE SHIPPING for orders over $20.00 within the USA and Canada and $2.00 for anything that is $19.99 and under. There is no complaints there for me!
I am very big about customer service and shipping. You can shop on a website where the products can be cute, but it's the customer service that stands behind the products that matter to me the most! If the customer service is horrible, I will not put my money towards bad service. I will shop elsewhere. So if I say that WowSoCool has EXCELLENT customer service, it's because they really do. It's like that saying: "a beautiful woman with an ugly personality, makes her look ugly."
My friend Mary ordered from them after I brought my Konad products to school to show her a demo. She fell in love with them on first sight and ended up ordering them online right in front of me. I saw her a few days later and she ran after me very excited to me to show me her newly painted toes. HAHA. She said she was also surprised how fast the shipping was.
So check it out and let me know what you think.

If you have ever heard of the group Improv Everywhere, then you know that we are known for causing scenes, chaos, and happiness in public places. It was initially started by Charlie Todd, involving thousands of undercover agents, including myself. If you have seen our missions, such as:
- No Pants on the Subway (click here to watch)
- MP3 Experiment (click here to watch)
- Frozen Grand Central (click here to watch)
these events are just to name a few. If you have seen these events, then you know who we are already. Hopefully, you were lucky enough to witness our chaos.
-Right Picture: Charlie Todd and I
Well, this past weekend on Sunday Sept 27th, we surpassed another successful mission in Brooklyn. My friend Juan (picture to right) is my partner in crime when completing missions and we had a blast. Over 2,000 agents met up at Bergen St. at exactly 2:00pm in a Brooklyn factory outside of Cobble Hill, our meeting spot. Each of us were given an "invisible dog" leash and we thereafter went out for a nice walk on a Sunday afternoon.
If any of you live in Brooklyn, or happen to be within the area, you probably would have seen tons of people walking casually with their invisible dogs. It's not exactly something you see on any normal day.
(Picture Above Left: Charlie Todd)
Seeing the expressions on peoples faces when they saw Juan and I walking our invisible dogs was hilarious! But what was more hilarious was after they saw us, they would see MORE people walking invisible dogs and their facial expression then was PRICELESS!
I heard this one couple talking to each other about Juan and I, saying, "look at that two, they must be crazy."
I heard this one couple talking to each other about Juan and I, saying, "look at that two, they must be crazy."
Some people reacted differently. I had people who would stare at us with dirty looks, then I had others who just froze with their mouth open. I enjoyed how some people were very playful about the whole situation that they would even stop me and ask, "what breed is your dog?" and I would reply, "oh he's a terrier mix."
I loved how people who were walking their REAL dogs would walk by and their dog would stop to sniff our invisible dog. For a second, it looked as though our dogs were interacting. People actually stopped to take pictures of us and some tried to be discreet about it by recording with their cell phones. One guy actually tried to feel under my leash to see if maybe he could feel something. Haha....classic!

I even had a NY cop drive by and try to look at me with a stern face, then once I smiled back at him, he couldn't help but smile back at me and begin laughing out loud. Some onlookers approached the cops complaining, "there are crazy people walking everywhere with invisible dogs!" The lady cop said, "well, if they cause any harm, I'm going to have to cite them with an invisible ticket." haha. The cops were very entertained by the whole situation and just stood around just to watch and laugh with amusement. They caught on to our prank and knew we were harmless.
Agents really got into the role when it came to walking their invisible dog. A taxi cab actually hit one of the agents invisible dog, so he actually got on his knees and performed CPR on his poor helpless invisible dog. Watch the video by clicking here.

The area in Brooklyn that we were at was a very pet friendly town. There were signs everywhere that read "dogs are welcomed" and most of us took advantage of that. As you can tell from the picture signs, some store owners were very friendly about the whole situations, while others not so friendly.
I actually had a lengthy conversation with a waitress from a Sushi restaurant about my invisible dog that I named "Brownie." Juan and I were craving some sushi, so just before we stepped in, we asked the manager, "are dogs allowed inside?" Confused, the manager says, "sure, come in."
- Picture right: Me with my dog Brownie
- Picture below: Juan with his dog.
All the sushi chefs came out of the back kitchen just standing and starring at us with confusions as we were ordering our food for take-out. The chefs were so busy trying to figure us out that they kept messing up our order and dropping and bumping into things. I told Juan I would wait for him outside, and as soon as I left, one of the waitresses ran out after me to stop me.
Our conversation went something like this:
Waitress: "Excuse me, what are you doing?" (while pointing at my invisible dog)
Me: "Nothing. Just walking my dog."
Waitress: "Really? Just walking?"
Me: "Yes. Just walking."
By this time, the waitress pulls a notepad out of her apron and writes the word "WALK" and shows me the word that she just wrote, pointing at it.
Waitress: "You mean this? Walk? W-A-L-K? (she shows me the word "WALK" that she wrote on her notepad and spells it out to me)
Me: "Yes. Walk. W-A-L-K" (I spell the word right back to her)
Waitress: "Are you American?"
Me: "Yes, I'm an American."
Waitress: "I'm sorry, this is new to me. I just moved here from China."
Me: "Well, welcome to AMERICA!"
Waitress: "Is this something normal you Americans do?"
Me: "Yes, it's normal for us to walk our dogs." (as I point to all the other thousand agents walking along the streets with their invisible dogs)
Waitress: "Can I pet your dog?"
Me: "Sure, go ahead. He doesn't bite."
Now, I don't know what's more funnier. The fact that she thought I was crazy or the fact that she actually bent over to pet my invisible dog. You decide!
Rob Lathan, to the left walks multiple dogs. Some of you might actually have recognized him from his stunt "Permanent Nutface Gary." He plays a guy whose face froze in the middle of an orgasm. (Video below)

More than 2,000 agents were at this event. The picture to the right was the leashes that were returned after the event. Thanks to everyone for taking such awesome pictures allowing others to enjoy the memories from this day.
Okay everyone, I have news for you. I started a new blog site. You're probably wondering "what for when you already have this blog?" Well, it is because I'm getting inquiries for gigs to do makeup and hair and people are asking to see my portfolio. I'm getting asked to do weddings, photo shoots, commercials, etc. YAY!! Unfortunately, I do not have a professional portfolio (but I will be having a professional portfolio very soon). However, I do have pictures that I have saved onto my computer and on my blog. So instead of sending links to my personal blog, I decided to start a separate blog for strictly fashion.
My new blog will still have my normal flare and personality to it. But instead of it being like THIS blog where I talk about anything from fashion to electronics to celebrities to makeup to just about anything (I can't help it, so much interests me)....I'm keeping this new blog I created, strictly fashion. It is much more organized that way. Therefore, if someone wants to see work that I have done, all I will do is send them a link to that blog...and if they decide to roam around throughout the rest of the blog, it will all be within its category. Make sense?
Okay, the name of my new blog is "MAKEUP + HAIR + FASHION = ART" pretty catchy, eh? If you wish to support me by visiting it and/or following that blog too, click here or you can go to (www.QueenLeilaniLovesArt.blogspot.com). I would greatly appreciate the love. There is not much on there since I just started it and I pretty much just transferred any makeup or fashion looks that I've done on this blog over to that blog. Don't worry, I won't stop posting on this blog. Thank you to all my faithful readers! =) Much love, Arlene.

So my little friend Liana is so cute and tiny and don't forget, shy. But don't mistake her size, because she has a big voice for a little body. She loves to sing every chance she gets...even if we are just driving in the car, she's singing on the top of her lungs in the backseat. haha. The funny thing that is so cute is, she will act shy, but once she starts singing...all that shyness goes away. It's so cute. She has a YouTube channel. Please help support her channel by checking it out, subscribe to her, rate and comment on her videos. Just to give you a sneak peak, I put a couple of her videos below.
Her YouTube username is LianaSantana03. Click here to go to her channel.

One of my subscribers on blogspot named Risa created a video on a DIY shirt. It was so cute that I had to share it with you. She might create some cute shirts, but she's an amazing makeup artist as well.
My long time friend and god daughter Alma came to New York to visit again. She also came to visit last month. It was a treat seeing her again 2 months in a row considering that we haven't seen each other in years. We used to hang out together nearly everyday when we were younger and I would sleep over her house and do girly things: hair and makeup and us dance in our pajamas till the wee hours of the night. We would make up dance routines together and had dance performances. Love it! Those were the fun days. Alma, do you remember how I used to always park backwards on the street on your block? haha.
She said she enjoyed doing the girly things with me again. I enjoyed it too.
I did her makeup and used the colors from her shirt that her little sister Angel got her. I used purples, greens, and turquoise blue. I think it came out really cute on her. I love this picture of her to the right with her glasses on. She looks like an anime character.
Ahh man, I forgot to take a picture of her cute nails that I painted. Oh well, next time.
We were craving some Korean food so we hit up a spot in the heart of Korea town (Manhattan) called Shilla Korean Barbecue House. We had never been to this place before and knew nothing of it...but i'm so glad we came here because it was SO GOOD! It was a pretty classy place and the food was so tasty and full of flavors. We ordered whatever meat we liked and it was brought to our table raw but a host lights up the grill in the middle of our table and cooked it for us fresh. It was so yummy! There is plenty of various sauces surrounding the grill to dip your meat in. It was so good. Not only was the food good but the service was excellent. The waitresses were very attentative. I remember I accidentally dropped my chopsticks and before I could reach down to pick it up, a waitress picked it up and put a new pair of chopsticks on my table for me.
When it's time to receive your check, most places might give you some mints or chocolates along with your check. But this place gave you asian yogurt in a bottle. I thought it was original and a tasty dessert. I woke up the morning craving to go to this place again. Haha. I look forward to coming back again.

Okay, this is going to be a very random post but it's worth it for the sake of your taste buds. If you like chicken or even Buffalo wings, then you have to try this sauce called
Bone Suckin' Sauce.
My boyfriend and I found it at our local grocery store and a little skeptical because of the plain packaging. It looked like someone made it out of their kitchen and just slapped a plain label on it. But it was the catchy name of the sauce that intrigued us to buy it. I tell you, it was definitely worth the purchase. This sauce is sooooo good! My boyfriend and I made some slamming buffalo wings with this sauce and we wanted seconds. I honestly haven't had any buffalo wings better than the ones that we've made and it's all because of this sauce. We even slathered it on some baby back ribs and threw them in the broiler. Mmmm....yummy. If you can't find it in any stores near you, you can find it here.
One of the things that I do I like about this sauce is that it's Gluten-Free. My dad has food allergies, one of them being allergic to anything with Gluten so I know he would love this. It was actually the ONLY Sauce Rated as A+ in Health Magazine, #1 in Newsweek and #1 in Food & Wine. Happy eating!
Gwen Stefani never ceases to amaze me with her beauty. It seems as though the older she gets the more beautiful she looks. I saw her on the cover of Glamour's October 2009 issue and she just looks fabulous.
My friends who know me know that I'm a huge fan of Miss Gwendolyn Renee Stefani. I can't believe she's going to be turning 40 soon since her birthday is around the corner on October 3rd. She is definitely looking great. She still looks like she's still in her 20's. I hope when I reach my 40's I can still look like i'm in my 20's. haha.
My boyfriend actually took me to see her in concert a few months ago. He knows how much I love No Doubt. Seeing No Doubt reunite and perform together on stage after 5 long years was definitely a treat. I didn't know whether to cry or to smile since it was all an emotional experience for me. I will never forget the day of the concert, given that it was the day before the death of Michael Jackson.
My friend Damien also went to see No Doubt in concert and was lucky enough to be in the pit and get close up for great pictures. The pictures to the right are the ones he took for me. Pretty close, eh?
Hearing all their classic songs brought back many memories. I look forward to when they come out with a new album.

Yesterday, my boyfriend and I were coming home late after having dinner at his parents. As we were driving down an abandoned street on a hot humid night with my windows down...I heard barking coming from an abandoned street. To my surprise, it was a cute little white puppy with spots tied between a dark alley of these abandoned buildings full of graffiti. I was thinking to myself, "Oh my God, who would tie their puppy there?!?" It was almost midnight at this time. At first, I just thought someone tied the puppy there temporarily.
But then this morning on the way to work, driving down the same street...that same PUPPY was still tied there barking and howling! I was so furious!! Who the hell would leave their puppy there?!? I am so mad! I asked my boyfriend if we could get it and take it to some shelter. But we were running late for work. So I begged him and made him promise me that we would get that dog and take it to a shelter once we got home after work.
I was so upset. I mean, I have a dog back home in California that's a rescued dog that I miss dearly. Now that I live in New York, I can't even have a puppy in my apartment and I want to have a dog so bad. And then here...people who CAN have a dog and they can't even FREAKIN' TAKE CARE OF IT!! The least thing they could have done was take it to a shelter rather than leaving it between 2 abandoned buildings making it susceptible to danger. It makes me extremely mad and sad at the same time. All I was thinking was "how long has that dog been there?" I mean, it's over 90 degrees outside, it has no shade, it's out in the sun, there's no water, no food. This is animal cruelty!
I called the Animal Protections within the neighborhood to report the issue and I've been on hold forever! I'm holding the phone while typing this trying to let out of my anger. As i'm holding the phone, i'm hearing a message that says, "we're experiencing a high volume of calls...please expect a long wait." Which occurs to me, the sadness to reality is, this happens to poor helpless animals way too much.
If you ever see an animal that may be under possible animal cruelty...please do something about it. Call your local animal shelter. Whatever you do, please don't ignore it. Someone else could love and take care of that animal thanks to you.
Adding captions to pictures can really bring out the story of the night. What you see here is pretty much what happened the entire night. haha.
My friends and I had so much fun. We danced at least 3 hours straight while singing to every song that the DJ played till we lost our voices. For whatever reason, the men at the club were extremely aggressive and persistent that night. As much as we let them know we were not interested in dancing, they would force a dance. See pictures as Exhibit A, B and C. HAHA.
I felt bad for my friend Alondra. She had it bad the entire night. She couldn't even enjoy dancing with us girls in peace without some guy trying to grab her. She kept trying to hide and huddle. Haha.
But honestly, it's not like us girls don't ever dance with men. No, trust me, we do dance. But when someone forces you to dance....it's not cute. Usually if girls come as a group, truthfully sometimes the group of girls are most of the time content with just dancing with each other. They don't mind dancing with just girls or dancing alone. Because I know when I go to a club, I like to dance and enjoy the music. I don't want to dance with a man who I have to worry that he's putting his hands in the wrong places and trying to grind me.
But not only that, some of us came with our boyfriends. When I was dancing with my boyfriend...one of these guys in the picture was whispering in my ear "can you teach me how to dance?" Seriously? I mean, I'm dancing with my man! But whatever, some men have to do what they have to do. I'm not going to go knocking down on a man's game. They can do what they feel is right, but it doesn't mean the women have to like it.
What a fun night!
